Latin American and Caribbean Student Association

Latin American and Caribbean Student Association

About

We are the first school-wide organization that aims to bring together people from the geographical and historical areas of Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean Islands, and South America, as well as those who are interested or passionate about the region. We are a pluralistic and inclusive organization seeking to build community and cultural awareness among Vanderbilt graduate students and Nashville at large.

We want to serve as a gathering point for people of Latin America and the Caribbean, to be a support for international students from the region who are already in Nashville or are coming next year, and to make ourselves present on the Vanderbilt campus and in Nashville in diverse ways.

We have a lot to offer and a lot to share among ourselves!!

Our main goals are:

  1. To be a gathering point for Latin American and Caribbean students and all other students that identify themselves as Latin American or Caribbean, or feel a strong connection, interest, or passion for Latin America and the Caribbean regardless of citizenship.
  2. Promote the diversity of Latin American and Caribbean cultures through events and other activities, such as holidays of the region or the countries of the region.
  3. Showcase aspects of Latin American and Caribbean cultures at different events (e.g., World on Wednesdays, invited speakers, etc.).
  4. Welcome, assist, and guide Latin American and Caribbean students upon arrival to Vanderbilt.
  5. Offer support to Vanderbilt students interested in learning about, working on, or visiting Latin America and the Caribbean.
  6. Establish links with Latin American-, Caribbean-, Hispanic-, and Latino-oriented (or interested) organizations on campus such as Vanderbilt Association of Hispanic Students, La Alianza at Vanderbilt Law School, AMIGOS, Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS), the Humphrey Fellowship Program, Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Latin@/American@ Seminarians (LAS), the Vanderbilt chapter of the national Latino Medical Student Association, and the Owen Latin Business Association, and collaborate in issues of common interest.
  7. Collaborate with organizations that interact with Latin American and Caribbean students, or whose focus is Latin America and the Caribbean, such as ISSS and CLAS, GSC, among others, in issues of common interest.
  8. Lend support to Latin American, Caribbean, and Latino communities in Nashville and surrounding areas.
