Join the Tennessee Holocaust Commission, The Vanderbilt Holocaust Lecture Series, and International Lens as we commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
The film, Karski & The Lords of Humanity, tells the story of Jan Karski who as a member of the Polish underground acted as a courier during World War II and whose most prominent mission was to inform the Allied powers of Nazi crimes against the Jews of Europe in an effort to prevent the Holocaust.
Jan Karski infiltrated the Warsaw Ghetto and a Transit Camp and carried his eyewitness reports of the atrocities to Britain and the United States, hoping that it would shake the conscience of the powerful leaders. After the war ended, Karski remained in the United States and began his studies at Georgetown University, receiving a Ph.D. He taught at Georgetown University for 40 years in the areas of East European affairs, comparative government and international affairs. He received many honors and awards for his tireless efforts on behalf of the Jewish people and refugees including recognition from Yad Vashem as Righteous Among the Nations.
E. Thomas Wood was Karski's biographer and spent years getting to know him personally as he crafted his award winning book How One Man Tried to Stop the Holocaust. Join us for a screening of the film and discussion with Tom Wood following the film. Sławomir Grünberg is a Polish-born naturalized American award-winning documentary producer, director and cameraman.
