Description

The VUSM Methuselah Society seeks to support nontraditional students in medicine through community events and 'long-arc' lecture series where faculty and residents from non-traditional backgrounds share their journey in medicine. Come learn about Dr. Kwadwo Sarpong's non-traditional journey in medicine and his insights on how you can best leverage your rich backgrounds! Even if you’re not a non-traditional student, feel free to join and learn about how Dr. Sarpong chose his specialty, created a work-life balance in a demanding field, and hear his tips on how to position yourself to be a successful residency candidate.

Kwadwo (Kojo) Sarpong, a PGY 3 neurosurgery resident at VUMC, was born and raised in Ghana. He immigrated to the United States in 2009 and graduated from Emory University with a BS in Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology in 2015. He received his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 2022. His current research interests are in global neurosurgery and he has founded several nonprofits to address the unmet research and neurosurgical needs in low-and-middle income countries. Kwadwo is a huge Manchester United fan and enjoys spending quality time with his wife, Priscilla, and daughter, Madison.
